          I just finished reading an interview with Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy. Personally, I’m not a fan of the show. It’s kind of a running joke in our house that if Family Guy is on and I walk into the family room, Sam automatically hands me the remote so I can turn it off or switch the channel. Actually, it’s not a running joke; it’s a fact. I don’t like the tone of the show, because all too often, it’s just mean.

          Anyway, in this interview, MacFarlane answered a question about an episode in which Peter, the Family Guy of the title, learns that three college girls were raped and murdered. His response is, “Everyone’s getting laid but me.” Why, the interviewer wondered, is that funny? MacFarlane’s answer was that Peter’s obliviousness makes it funny. “You’re not laughing at rape; you’re laughing at him being an idiot.”

          Bear in mind that the biggest audience of this show is men ages 18 to 34.

          Bear in mind that 1 in 6 women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime, and college age women are 4 times more likely to be victims of sexual assault. That 60 % of rapes go unreported, and only 6% of rapists ever spend a day in jail. And okay, so maybe I’m a bit touchy, since I personally got raped one warm June night when I was twelve and a half years old, walking back from the swimming pool to the hotel room I was sharing with my grandmother.

          All that aside- and I’ve spent much of my life trying to put it aside- I don’t think you need to experience it for yourself to understand that rape is big on terror and short on mirth. So, forgive me if I’m not laughing at Peter for being an idiot, because the truth is, rape is never-even remotely- funny.

Three Cups of Tea

Today I finished one of the most inspiring books I have ever read- Three Cups of Tea. It was motivating, compassionate, incredibly inspirational, and very informative. Being moved by the book, after I had finished it while drinking my coffee at Ucup this morning, I gave it to a stranger named Laura and I asked that she pass it on as well. I hope she does :-)

When was younger I wanted to be the next Mother Theresa. I wanted to help those around the world but I think I became lost in my own wants. I am going to start saving up money to donate and become more involved with TFA, as a starting point. Obviously education is something I hold very dear to me, and i hope to share that with others.

I hope you have an amazing and I suggest you read Three Cups of Tea :-)

i love this tumblr, don’t get me wrong. but what disgusts me more is that no one has reblogged this with a sense of disgust. these are children. imitating sex acts. there are so many other things wrong with this but really, i’m outraged that no one has expressed it… i guess… this is disgusting. it makes me sad.
